FOLLOW THE DRINKING GOURD


Song inspired by Mrs. Helen Craddock


This slave folk song was used by the 

Underground Railroad 

operative to encode escape instructions 

and a map. These directions than enabled 

fleeing slaves to make their way North from

 Mobile, Alabama to the Ohio River to FREEDOM.

Joan supported me in my very early days of my calligraphy, 

so much so that she begged me to do her  

"CRACK DOWN ON DRUGS T- SHIRT" 



In her honor and for her dedicated service to the NAUCK Community, I would like to give back. The  purchases of

 "Follow the Drinking Gourd" poster is $20.00 

ALL PROCEEDS will to the JOAN COOPER FUND,

 a fund created by Joan to improve the quality of life in the NAUCK community  and in the entire Arlington County.



Each Poster comes with a certificate of authenticity listing poster number & reason for purchase. Also a  certificate of authenticity will be presented to the Arlington Foundation listing all the individuals who purchased the print  or made a cash donation. This campaign will continue  until all 150 prints are purchased or a new campaign is started.

"Following the Drinking Gourd Poster" was inspired by Mrs. Helen Craddock and created to celebrate the 150 years of Emancipation Proclamation 1863-2013. This Poster is a closed Limited edition print only 150 prints have been printed to represent the 150 year celebration of the Emancipation Proclamation. 
The poster represent the slave folk song that was used by the Underground Railroad operative to encode escape instructions and a map.  These directions than enabled fleeing slaves to make their way North from Mobile, Alabama to the Ohio River to FREEDOM. 
This is a fundraising poster.
