ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
David A. N. Jackson is a multidisciplinary performer who's graced local, regional and national stages at a number
of venues. He is an actor, visual artist, wood carver, drum carver and percussionist as well as a poet.
Endearingly known around the city and throughout the region as "D'Poet. David A. N. Jackson whose Saint Louis claim
to fame began many years ago as a featured artist with NGOMA!, an ensemble of drummers, dancers, and poets appearing
at La Patisserie Café, has long been appreciated as a profound and enlightened artist of multiple gifts, talents and abilities.
He is an ever-evolving and accomplished percussionist, wood sculptor, artist, poet, and vocalist, just to list a few of his skills,
as well as an avid community activist and teacher.
In late 1994 while working with and as a member of the local poetry performance group The Warrior Poets, K. Curtis Lyle
bestowed upon him the description and moniker of "The Man With 39 Jobs". Since that time the jobs and artistic
expression have done nothing but blossom and expand.
David has performed live on stage with the likes of Poet/Author Haki Matubuti, Abiodun Oyewole & Davheed Nelson
of The Last Poets, poet author Shirley LeFlore, professor poet writer K. Curtis Lyle, vocalists Maya Azucena, Crystal Warren,
Ali Woodson -Temptations, and Oliver Sain. David also shared the stage and played percussion with the
legendary R&B music group Kool & The Gang. Hannibal Peterson - African Portraits, Cedric The Entertainer -
In My Father's House-Strands, Hip Hop artist NiteOwl, Jahi Kearse, and with many others,
including opening for the iconic Gil Scott Heron.
